Went to see my Friend and his Band Charetta on Saturday at Mulcahy's in Centereach. This was my first attempt at trying to shoot a live show and it was tons of fun! I my D7K at iso 3200 Tamron 24-75 2.8

Not too bad for your first time, but there is a lot to improve on.

One thing you should try is to incorporate the stage lighting in your shots, like you see below. It gives it more depth and better feel that it was a concert, but sometimes, it's difficult to do that. Also ask the band if you can use flash. I've used flash on almost all the concerts I've shot, and saw the guitarist annoyed on the last one I shot...but not like they could've done anything since I had the flash on stage, but was shooting from the back lol.

I could have used flash but I wanted to keep the shots with a darker feel. As for the lights , I have to use what is given. Usually the lights are on a tempo/BPM tracker and they turn on and off to the beat.

Did you bring a bag of different gear or just the cam around your neck?

I had my camera bag with my 90mm lens and flash inside. They didn't even inquire about what was inside.

1 2 and 3 are the best of the bunch. Not bad on noise for 3200 I'm sure there was more noise from the band (just a bad joke).
    I like the B&W's.
    You did great !

I have to look around but I think I have negative scans of Billy Joel, Natalie Merchant & James Taylor from my college days. I will post them another day when I find them. I did these a month or so ago of my friend's (lead singer) band:

I love the second and third shots aPro! I haven't tried using flash yet to shoot shows, I get nervous because I don't want it to bother the band members. The last show I went to I did need a flash and was disappointed I didn't bring one. It was in the basement and the only light used to light the band were two overhead regular bulbs, it was awful. Tonight I have another show that I am allowed to bring equipment. I've never been to the venue, and will bring a flash this time just in case, but we'll see.

Erik, for your shots, did you use any flash? The skin tone looks very natural even with all that red light in the back.

Believe it or not I did use flash. Bounced it off the ceiling. Place was literally a hole-in-the-wall, if I took you there you would not believe how crappy the place was. Your basement was probably better. VERY dark in there though, I pretty much killed batteries bouncing in there.
