50 and 51 of NY state civil rights laws, you should familiarize yourself th it... If you call yourself a photographer your site or blogbis commercial advertising and you need a release! Someone tells you to take a picture of them down you have no choice.... Every state is different, NY requires everything in writing, some stats are implied. Unlike copyright law right to privacy is a state by state thing....

On my iPad, I'll fix my wonky typing tomorro, lol...

Sec 50. Right of privacy. A person, firm or corporation that uses for advertising purposes, or for the purposes of trade, the name, portrait or picture of any living person without having first obtained the written consent of such person, or if a minor of his or her parent or guardian, is guilty of a misdemeanor.

Nothing about non-commercial usage. If your blog or site or whatever is strictly a gallery of your personal artwork, to express and share your hobby... there is nothing commercial about it. I'm just saying .... only because we have a mixed audience here, some people simply dont aspire to ever do photography for anything more than the fun of taking photos ... and if that was the case, the law is on your side. Like I said though, someone willing enough could certainly twist anything and make it seem that there was some implied commercial aspect to your work... might as well get the paper signed.

Is your blog advertising your artwork?

A hobbyist and pro alike can infringe on someones right to privacy.

    It's a real fine line....

Nope, the entirety of the communication was what I pasted up there. I'm sure they really wouldnt care to offer anything, they'd just rather get a signature than to make the guys in the editing room blur out the photos on the wall.

So I've been doing these " free" shoots for practice and really thought i wouldn't need a release form but turns out i do .. so i stole one from the internet , made some revisions to fit my policies and going to start passing them out before shoot.
    done and done.
    =)
