I found this video last night, this guy seems to have a bunch of great ideas for cheaper ways to make items to help with filming. This Camera jib/crane can be made for under $30. I might try to make one soon.

    Thoughts on this??

Here's a Camera Stabilizer Rig for Under $5 that he made. Just a few ideas for people who want to do some film work.

I've seen lots of stabilizers and even made one myself, but that crane is impressive

especially for the price. I just bought pvc pipe to make the stabilizer today at Lowe's came to like $4.50 for everything and I priced the metal pole for the Jib Crane and it was $11 for I believe an 11 foot section.

    Saw the second one...
Its called a stabilizer rig, but I dont see what it does to stabilize your movie cam while anything els other than just setting it down on a table. What difference does it make when walking around with it? Its either grip the cam or grip the rig. Same movement no?

Keep an eye out when Joe posts the DIY stuff. He did one a while back and posted it here, but sadly I forgot what it was. Something with the flash I think LOL.

Just the size of it alone will add stability reducing camera shake - but really the first 2 minutes of the video sorta show what the purpose of it it is, more for maneuverability and stability across a horizontal or vertical plane vs handholding a camera with one or two arms with 10 fingers and hundreds of muscles all adding to undesired movement of the camera. This is more of a grip-rig, but more elaborate versions (such as the pro one he showed at the beginning) have a gimbal (a gyroscopic balanced pivot point).
