3 Day Old Fold

This is a photo of a 3 day old foal taken on Assateague Island late fall. It was one of the mostmemorable moments I have had while photographing wildlife. I was taking photos of this Band of wild horses, one just gave birth to the foal just 3 days prior. I was on my knees photographing the foal and its mother. The foal was running around and kicking its hind legs having a great time all by its self, when it ran straight up to me and stuck its nose on my flare hood and then proceeded to take another step and stuck its nose right in my face. I completely froze and then it turned around and ran back to its mother. My first thought was I hope Mom does not kick me in the head and then when it was safely away I just started to laugh. There were some other people close by and they all come up to me and were cracking up one woman ask me how I could control myself and not touch it. I responded by pointing to momma and said she never took her eye off the foal. It was a great day as I like to say the photography gods were smiling upon me that day.

Looks like you can reach right out and touch it, which I'm sure you would have if "Momma" wasn't right there! What a great shot! It's something that being so "new" the little foal had no fear of you, makes you thing and reflect upon how life would be if we could all be that trusting!
